Armani / Casa Celebrates Craftsmanship Behind Home Collection with Artisan Showcase
Three Italian artisans were on-hand for live demonstrations of the intricate work that goes into crafting each piece

Armani / Casa Madison Avenue recently welcomed three Italian artisans to bring the craftsmanship behind the maison’s iconic home collection to new life with striking live demonstrations. On Tuesday, May 13, the luxurious new Armani location was transformed into an artisan workshop, as guests experienced first-hand the meticulous work that goes into crafting pieces with three techniques; the Midollino, Orsini Glass, and Shell Mosaic.
Each technique is behind iconic pieces from the Armani home collection, including a Orsini glass finish on the Venus console and the Virgola bookshelf. The technique involves a finish inspired by Neoclassic architectural details, and requires hand painting the back of glass with special pastel-toned paint using a soft, large brush.
The shell mosaic technique, which is available on the Sofia chair, the Camilla desk, the Antoinette coiffeuse, and the Vega console, involves the mother-of-pearl undergoing a meticulous process to unveil the iridescent surface beneath, and it is then precision-cut into small tesserae before being assembled. The Midollino technique produces a three-dimensional texture featured in many wicker pieces.
